Michael Jackson`s case to be upgraded
The `King of Pop` died of acute Propofol intoxication by intravenous injection of another last June. His personal physician Murray has admitted administering the fatal anaesthetic, and has been charged with involuntary manslaughter.
Yesterday, three members of Michael`s staff, including his logistics manager Alberto Alvarez, submitted witness statements claiming Murray had stopped resuscitation attempts and delayed calling paramedics while he hid drugs at the scene.
Murray`s lawyers have dismissed the new evidence as "inconsistent", but Alvarez`s allegations have infuriated Michael`s mother Katherine Jackson, who is now seeking to have the doctor`s charges upgraded.
"Mrs. Jackson never doubted that this man murdered her son, and these new revelations, if true, mean we need additional charges to fit the severity of his crimes," Katherine`s attorney Adam Streisand told the New York Daily News.
"Second degree murder requires malice aforethought, which can be implied by the conduct of the defendant. The actions alleged suggest that Dr. Murray abandoned his duties as a physician or an ordinary human being to save himself rather than his patient."
Murray has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter. He will face court on April 5.
Meanwhile, Michael`s sister Janet Jackson has spoken about how she has been coping with the star`s death. Janet says she threw herself into new movie Why Did I Get Married Too? and found the experience emotional, but therapeutic.
"It was very tough at times. Very draining," she told Fox News 411 blog. "It was very cleansing, very cathartic at others."
